Counselling, what is it?
"You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step"
Martin Luther King Jr
I am continually inspired by the bravery and courage people show during times of loss and sadness, often discovering strength and courage deep within themselves that they never knew existed. Its a reminder that even in the hardest and most painful moment's, we can find the ability to heal, have peace and enjoy life again.
At Syringa Counselling, I am committed to understanding your unique experience by stepping into your shoes and seeing the world from your point of view. Grief is deeply personal, and I offer compassionate, non-judgmental support to help you navigate your journey. By truly understanding your emotions and thoughts, we can work together to find healing and peace in the midst of your loss.
Some people find sharing their grief with friends and family to be a healing process, but it can also bring with it well-meaning opinions about how you should or shouldn’t grieve, and judgments around how long the grieving process should last. This can create additional emotional strain and impact your healing. Bereavement counselling offers a safe, non-judgmental space where your grief is honoured and understood. and counselling can provide the support you need to heal in your own time and way.
I understand that each individual is unique, this is why I take a person-centred, integrative approach, tailoring the counselling experience to suit your specific needs. Drawing on my extensive experience I have ability to adapt approaches and draw upon a wide range of therapy styles including cognitive behavioural therapy and psychotherapy.
Having spent my life in caring roles, I am dedicated to working at a pace that feels right for you, ensuring your comfort throughout the process. My empathetic and compassionate approach is focused on creating a safe and supportive environment, where you can feel at ease and truly at home as you navigate your healing journey.
To begin, we will have a 20-minute initial phone call to discuss your needs and what you hope to gain from counselling. This conversation will also give me the opportunity to explain how the sessions work and what you can expect from our time together
